Just in case anyone is wondering...

I managed to get the digitized audio to work... I think...

Using SBOS 1.23 with no switches ( -o3 seems to hang the thing )
and settings
ULTRASOUND IRQ = 5
MIDI IRQ = 7

This was someone's ( I can't remember who ) suggestion that IRQ 7 is
hardwired in T2029. I figure that this might be the same problem with
alot of games with digitized audio problems. Unfortunately, I also found
out that with the IRQ settings this way, The Lost Files of Sherlock
Holmes just crashes on me...

Anyone want to confirm this?
And who's updating the compatibility list?

The latest bulletin on the Gravis BBS has both these programs listed at
US$10 (CAD$14) from Gravis. They also have an order form listing among other
things, the Ultrasound version of CYAC for US$14. I suppose net conventions
prevent me from posting the entire bulletin here since it's definitely a
commercial item...

p/s: Before anyone gets confused; it's both the Midisoft Recorder (or whatever
they call it) and Powerchords *bundled* for US$10.

Oops. Sorry, but I forgot to post that the prices don't include shipping
and handling. =( It's US$4 (CAD$6) extra, though I can't remember what
kind of shipping... is it legal to put the bulletin at epas?

There have been two posts from people (or was it the same person?)
stating they were running Wolfenstein 3D with the GUS under OS/2.
I have never been successful with that.  I managed to get some
partial DOS settings from one poster (via e-mail) which did not work.
Some of those DOS settings were in direct contrast with the DOS settings
I was given by someone long ago to get plain old Wolf3D (no soundboard)
to work under OS/2 - those DOS settings *were* successful.

Please, whoever has the GUS, Wolf3D, and OS/2 peacefully coexisting,
post or send me as much information as possible.
    - DOS settings for the session in OS/2
    - DMA channel, IRQ settings for the GUS
    - Version of SBOS used (date of file also)
    - How SBOS driver is loaded
        * in config.sys file
        * as device driver for that DOS session in DOS settings
        * using a batch file to load driver and run program
        * initialized automatically on entry to OS/2
    - How/where the DOS environment variables are set (ULTRADIR, etc.)
    - Whether the joystick calibration is also done

Hey, someone ELSE who bought a computer from Standard Computer Corp! I have
their 486/33 and the GUS works fine on a 16-bit DMA channel. The trouble is
that SOME lots of SOME chipsets (OPTi and UMC have shown the problem) have
a bad DMA controller chip that doesn't respond fast enough, thus causing
timing problems and parity errors.

I'm trying to get some "real" info on what lots are bad, etc. You'll just
have to try it out to see if your machine displays the problem. If it does,
using an 8-bit DMA channel should fix it...

Only SOME lots are bad. Gravis first noticed the problem with UMC chipsets
(I think). I don't know of any way to test if your chipset will work, short
of trying a 16-bit DMA transfer.

Ok, folks, just got off the phone with Gravis. A couple bits o' info...

The MidiSoft and Power Cords bundle should be about $10 which just about
covers shipping/handling to send it out. There is supposed to be a message
on the Gravis BBS with all the details...

Speaking of the Gravis BBS, they've hired a full time human to run the
thing. He ran the largest BBS in Canada (I think) before this so he knows
his stuff.

The UltraSound 3D software is licensed from Focal Point and is NOT Qsound,
which proportedly doesn't work with headphones and can't place sounds
front/back. Focal Point 3D works with any headphones and place sounds
up/down, front/back and left/right. The demo at CES used special $3000
headphones with a magnetic sensor to get the "virtual reality" effect.

The upgrade to the 3D software will be "less than the retail price
difference" between the base UltraSound and the GUS 3D.

Eye and I is putting the finishing touchs on the MIDI patch set and it'll
ship when they are done.

Gravis was wondering, with all the clamour for OS/2 drivers, what all
people were going to DO with them. Can you send me a list of apps that will
use the GUS if native drivers become available? Are there alot of apps that
support MMPM/2? What will you use the GUS for under OS/2??

What are the Chances that Gravis will let us post the new software on internet?
That way the new patches, 3d software, etc will get around alot faster.
Cheaper for them: No disks/postal expenses, etc....  And everone will be alot
happier, alot faster....
